Beginning Practitioners
To be really successful in a private practice, you need to remember why you went into this field in the first place.  Let that passion motivate and drive you!  This is the ultimate sales technique: believing in yourself.  Believe in the good that you do for other people.

Many practitioners feel uncomfortable with the business side of private practice and get nervous thinking about marketing.  If you allow your desire to help others be the foundation of your business, you'll begin to see the results
.

Getting Started

If you find yourself thinking about having your own practice with your current job, PP may be for you.  But some hard questions may stop you from taking any action:

  • Is it too risky?
  • What about health insurance?
  • Am I good enough?
  • How will I get paid?
  • Will I be able to survive?
  • How will I get clients?

These questions are normal.  Private practice isn't for everyone, and that's okay.  You may be very comfortable working for a company that provides you with the security that you need.  But if you're comfortable with the risk, and feel that you're worth the attempt, private practice might be for you.  Even if you aren't familiar with marketing or the business side of practice, we have the resources to help you.

First Steps:  Goals

Even before deciding to start your private practice, it's important to assess your personal and professional  goals. Does private practice fit into your current or future life plan?

MN Private Practice will help you identify and review your goals, strengths and weaknesses to help you make those initial practice decisions.  A practice that fits your life plan and is centered in the vision you have for yourself and others has the greatest chance of success.

First Steps: Marketing Ideas

Marketing is another way to say "I'm here to help!"  It's the way that you begin to connect with people who may need your expertise but don't know you yet.

MN Private Practice will help you with all sorts of marketing ideas.  We'll assess your comfort level and what you are experienced in.  Marketing can stretch from the basics of business cards all the way to niche markets and business networks.  With your passion and our experience, marketing your practice can be enjoyable!

Second Steps: Having a Website

These days, many people are searching for practitioners online.  There's a certain comfort, security and anonymity when searching online. People, particularly those who are computer literate, like being able to chose a therapist from the comfort of their laptop.  How empowering is it for someone searching for a therapist to actually get to choose their therapist?  Having a website allows the client to search for the therapist that best fits their need.

Search Engine Optimization

Does the idea scare you?  Don't let it.  Once you get the hang of optimizing your website and see how important it is, you'll feel much more at ease.  Search Engine Optimization is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to your website from search engines.  It allows those searching for a therapist to find you on the top of the list.  If you don't want to do it yourself, have someone help you.  MN Private Practice can help assist with Search Engine Optimization details such as website content, key word density and website design.
